Offensive Surge Leads Women's Soccer Past Pace, 3-0

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Sept. 21, 2009) – C.W. Post displayed a steady pace of offense as it shut out Pace University en route to a 3-0 win in Monday afternoon's women's soccer clash on Robert Blitz Field.
C.W. Post improves its overall record to 5-1-1 while Pace slips to 1-6-1.
The Pioneers outshot the Setters by a 23-4 margin and held a 5-0 advantage in corner kicks.
Junior midfielder Jackie Sousa (North Reading, Mass.) scored her first goal of the season in the 35th minute when she picked the ball up on a pass from junior forward Sanna Pettersson (Orebro, Sweden) from 20 yards out and beat out Pace's goalkeeper before tucking the ball into the goal on a 10-yard shot.
Junior forward Ivana Babic (Haninge, Sweden) added her sixth goal of the season in the 66th minute when she picked up a long pass from freshman goalkeeper Nicole Fierro (East Hampton, N.Y.) and shot the ball from out front into the upper left corner.
The Pioneers' third goal came in the 74th minute when freshman back Janie Janitto (Hamden, Conn) scored on a 25-yard penalty kick that grazed past the Pace keeper and into the upper left corner of the goal.
Freshman goalkeeper Nicole Fierro (East Hampton, N.Y.) made two stops in goal to record her third shutout of the season.
Sophomore goalkeeper Monique Morey (Port Orchard, Wash.) made four saves in goal for the Setters.
C.W. Post returns to action Sept. 23 on the road against third-ranked College of Saint Rose at 4:15 p.m.
