Five Pioneers Set Personal Records As Cross Country Competes At Codfish Bowl
BOSTON, Mass. (Sept. 26, 2009)- The C.W. Post Pioneers made an impressive performance for the second week in a row, as five Pioneers set new personal records at the Codfish Bowl, held at Franklin Park in Boston, Massachusetts. The Pioneer women took home a 12th place overall finish out of 23 competing institutions, while the men placed eighth overall out of 18 teams.
Senior Kristen Sweeney (Kennebunkport, Maine) was the first harrier to cross the line on the women's side, completing the 5k course in 19 minutes and 54 seconds, taking 30th place out of 207 competitors. Fellow senior Erin Lusenskas (East Atlantic Beach, N.Y.) crossed the line next in 56th place, setting a new 5k personal record of 20:37.3. Freshman Caitlin Smith (Levittown, N.Y.) followed shortly after Lusenkas with a time of 20:43.1, good enough for 61st place. Freshman Katherine Wilkens (Woodbury, N.Y.) placed 92nd, finishing the race in 21 minutes and 24 seconds. Senior Irekpitan Ehikioya (West Hempstead, N.Y.) rounded out the Pioneer pack, crossing the line at the 22:37.6 mark.
Graduate student Vince Giambanco (Muttontown, N.Y.) led the Pioneer men, finishing the 8k course in 17th place with a time of 26:13.1. He was followed by freshman Christian Altamura (Seaford, N.Y.) who set a new personal record of 27:09, beating his old record by an astonishing one minute and 17 seconds, and placing 52nd overall out of a field of 202 competitors. Freshman David Johnson (Flushing, N.Y.) followed shortly after, setting a new personal record for the second consecutive week, completing the course in 56th place with a time of 27:15.5. Raymond Coyle (Woodhaven, N.Y.) followed on the heels of Johnson, crossing the line just a second later in 58th place. Freshman Matthew O'Keefe (East Rockaway, N.Y.) placed 60th out of the field, setting a new personal record of 27:19.7. Senior Thomas Brouillard (Syosset, N.Y.) finished in 84th place for C.W. Post, setting a new personal record of his own with a time of 27:57.
C.W. Post is back in action October 10, as the Pioneers compete in the DeSales Invitational, held in Center Valley, Pa.
