UMass Lowell Shuts Out Women's Soccer, 2-0

LOWELL, Mass. (Sept. 30, 2009) – The University of Massachusetts Lowell scored two late goals in the first half and held on to defeat C.W. Post, 2-0, in a non-conference women's soccer contest Wednesday afternoon on Cushing Field.
UMass Lowell improves to 7-2-2 overall while C.W. Post drops to 6-3-1. The Pioneers return to action Oct. 7 at Molloy College.
The River Hawks completed the game outshooting the Pioneers by a 15-8 margin and held a 6-2 advantage in corner kicks.
Junior forward Brianne Bozzella (Wilmington, Mass.) scored her fourth goal of the season to record the game winner in the 28th minute on a rebound shot with Kelly Soper (Auburn, Mass.) and Ella Merullo (Wakefield, Mass.) assisting on the play.
The River Hawks added an insurance goal in the 43rd minute on a goal from freshman midfielder Taylor Hartmann (Feeding Hills, Mass.) on a feed from senior forward Kathleen Strazzere (Wakefield, Mass.).
Senior goalkeeper Jamie Gillis (North Billerica, Mass.) earned her seventh shutout of the season, making four stops in goal.
Sophomore goalkeeper Allie Weiser (Grand Island, N.Y.) made seven stops in goal for the Pioneers.
