Men's and Women's Cross Country Finish Third At Hofstra Invitational

BETHPAGE, N.Y. (Sep. 5, 2009)- The C.W. Post cross country team opened its season at the Hofstra Invitational Saturday afternoon, scoring a third place finish for both the men's and women's squads.

The women finished tied for third place with Molloy College each with 110 points, finishing behind champion Adelphi University with 23 points and second-place NYIT with 80 points. 

Senior #Kristin Sweeney# (Kennebunkport, Maine) led the Pioneer pack, crossing the finish line with a time of 20 minutes, 41.92 seconds, good for ninth place. Fellow senior Erin Lusenskas (East Atlantic Beach, N.Y.) finished 17th, clocking in at 21:41.31. 

Freshman Caitlin Smith (Levittown, N.Y.) crossed the line 20th overall with a time of 22:11.65.  Seniors Kristin Coscia (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) and  Irekpitan Ehikioya (West Hempstead, N.Y.) finished 35th and 41st respectively, with times of 23:26.66 and 23:49.07.

The men finished with 83 points, behind champion Adelphi University with 20 points and USMMA Kings Point with 57 points.  Three runners in the top 25 helped the Pioneer harriers to their strong finish, including a ninth-place finish by graduate student Vince Giambanco, who clocked in at 16:18.23. 

Freshman Christian Altamura (Seaford, N.Y.) finished 20th overall with a final time of 17:11.03, followed by classmates Raymond Coyle (Woodhaven, N.Y.) – 22nd overall at 17:23.03 and David Johnson (Flushing, N.Y.) – 28th overall at 17:35.50.   Senior Thomas Brouillard (Syosset,) finished 36th with a time of 17:55.62 and freshman Matt O'Keefe (East Rockaway, N.Y.) clocked in at 18:49.52, good for 49th, respectively. 

The C.W. Post Cross Country team will be back in action hosting the C.W. Post Invitational on Saturday, September 12.
