Men Cross Country First at St. Joseph’s Invitational; Women Second Overall, First Place of Division II

(Oct. 24, 2010) – The C.W. Post Cross Country teams both enjoyed excellent performances yesterday at the St. Joseph's Invitational as the men's team placed first and the women were second overall, however first place among Division II schools. 

Senior #Vincent Giambanco# (Muttontown, N.Y.) and freshman #Joseph Lasher# (Seaford, N.Y) finished one second apart from each other to help lead the men's team to its first place overall finish. Giambanco finished with a time of 27:55, good enough for sixth place overall for individuals. Lasher would finish a second later, landing in seventh place. Sophomores #Raymond Coyle# (Woodhaven, N.Y.) and #Matthew O'Keefe# also finished in the top ten, placing ninth and tenth for the Pioneers with times of 28:23 and 28:36 respectively. As a whole, the men finished with a time of 2:21:18.2 for the first place finish.

For the women, five placement points would be the different behind St. Joseph's for the first place finish. The women Pioneers would qualify on the day for the best Division II finish. Freshman #Jenn McLaughlin# (Seaford, N.Y.) was the first Pioneer to finish, placing fifth overall with her time of 21:28. Sophomore Caitlin Smith (Levittown, N.Y.) also finished inside the top ten, completing the course in a seventh place time of 21:51.

The East Conference Championships will be the next event for the Cross Country teams, as C.W. Post will be hosting the event in Brookville, N.Y. on Nov. 7.
