Five Women's Soccer Players Earn Daktronics, Inc. All Region Honors

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (Nov. 16, 2010)- Daktronics Inc., released its All-East Region women's soccer selections, honoring five Pioneers with regional honors. Senior forward Ivana Babic (Haninge, Sweden) and senior back Anna Svensson (Stockholm, Sweden) earned spots of the All-Region first team, while senior midfielder Danielle DeLuca (Islip, N.Y.), sophomore goalkeeper Allie Weiser (Grand Island, N.Y.) and freshman forward Alexa Niciforo (East Islip, N.Y.) represented the Pioneers on the second team.

Babic, the 2010 East Coast Conference Offensive Player of the Year, is a four-time all-conference selection, three-time Daktronics, Inc. All-Region pick, and two-time CoSIDA/ESPN All-District honoree.  The senior has scored 13 goals, good for second on the team, and is tied for the lead with eight assists on the seaosn.  

Svensson, the 2010 East Coast Conference Defensive Player of the Year, is another four-time all-conference selection.  Also a two-time Daktronics All-Region pick and a 2008 All-American, Svensson has started in every single game the Pioneers have played during her tenure in green and gold.  This year, she has one goal and one assist to her credit while anchoring a defense that has allowed only nine goals all season.

DeLuca makes her third appearance on the Daktronics All-Region team, as well as her fourth straight All-Conference first team selection.  The speedy midfielder is tied for the team lead with eight assists this season, while also contributing two goals.

Weiser earns her first All-Region kudo as she garnered ECC Goalkeeper of the Year and All-Conference first team honors.  She has a 13-1-4 record with a .899 save percentage, and has allowed only nine goals all season for a 0.49 goals against average.

Finally, Niciforo continues with her standout rookie season that also saw her earn All-Conference first team honors as well as being named the 2010 Rookie of the Year.  With 17 goal, Niciforo leads the Pioneers in scoring and also has three assists to her credit.

The Pioneers' five All-Region selections are second only to Saint Rose with six selections.   C.W. Post will face Saint Rose on Friday at 1:30 in an NCAA third-round contest as the Pioneers (14-1-4) look to end Saint Rose's season-long unbeaten streak.
