Men's Cross Country Win Back-to-Back ECC Championships; Women Finished Fourth

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Nov. 7, 2010) – The C.W. Post men's cross country team have won back to back East Coast Conference Championships after a stellar performance today on the campus of C.W. Post during the ECC Championship meet. The women's team finished fourth after its performance today.
The men's team was able to complete its back to back championship run behind five runners finishing in the top 10. Sophomore
Christian Altamura (Seaford, N.Y.) led the Pioneers, as he finished the five mile course in a time of 26:04.24 to finished fourth place among all individuals. Senior
Vincent Giambanco (Muttontown, N.Y.) was the next Pioneer to complete the course, as he finished sixth with a time of 26:18.18. C.W. Post runners then took over the eighth through 11
th place finishes. Freshman
Joseph Lasher (Seaford, N.Y.) finished his day in the eighth spot with a time of 26:27.64. Three sophomore Pioneer runners then finished in times of 26:53.28, 26:55.07, 26:55.93 as
Matthew O'Keefe,
Raymond Coyle, and
Thomas Speicher placed in ninth through 11
th respectively.
Freshman
Jennifer McLaughlin paced the women, as her time of 20:36.85 was good enough for ninth place in the women's 5k. Sophomore
Caitlin Smith also had a good showing today, as her 21:05.56 time put her in 16
th place. Another Pioneer female runner also finished in the top 20, with freshman
Karissa Chiantella placing 18
th in a time of 21:15.79.
The next step in the postseason will be the NCAA East Regional on Nov. 21 in Boston, Mass.
