Kelsey Walker Promoted To Softball Associate Head Coach
BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (March 18, 2010) – C.W. Post head softball coach Jamie Apicella announced the promotion of assistant coach Kelsey Walker to Associate Head Coach, it was announced Thursday.
Walker, who was a four-year standout player for the Pioneers from 2003-06, has worked alongside Apicella the past four seasons, including the teams' memorable runs to the College World Series in 2007 and 2008.
“Kelsey's dedication and loyalty to the program and the extensive knowledge she has brought to the program has helped guide the Pioneers,” remarks Apicella. “Her leadership, experience and big-game mentality has helped educate the current Pioneers on how the game is supposed to be played. She brings high energy and enthusiasm every day to practice and complements me as a head coach daily.”
In 2008, Walker and Apicella were named the 2008 NFCA Northeast Region Coaching Staff of the Year, the second year in a row the pair received this recognition. Together, they have coached the Pioneers to a 127-51 overall record which includes two NCAA East region titles and two East Coast Conference titles. The Pioneers have also been nationally ranked in the NFCA poll every season.
Walker oversees the team's conditioning and nutrition programs, and is a member of the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA).
In addition to outfield, Walker is also in charge of situational offense and base running for the team. In 2007, under Walker's guidance, Kelsey Cooley finished 14th in the nation in sacrifice bunts per game with 20, and the team was 44-51 in steal attempts.
“I have been honored and privileged to have her by my side for the past four seasons and I feel this promotion is well deserved,” continues Apicella. “I know our team has tremendous respect for Coach Walker and I know they feel privileged to have the opportunity to play for her.”
