BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (March 25, 2010) –
Solid pitching and timely hits were key as No. 17 C.W. Post easily swept past Queens College in a doubleheader of East Coast Conference softball Thursday afternoon, 11-1 and 8-0. 
C.W. Post improves to 11-5 overall and 2-0 in the ECC while Queens slips to 4-9 overall and 0-2 in conference play.
Senior third baseman Shannon Kulnis (Flemington, N.J.) led the Pioneers offensively with five RBI, including a three-run homer in the first game that put them ahead 3-0 in the bottom of the first.
Junior pitcher Sarah Kiser (Arnold, Md.) earned her fifth win and pitched five solid innings and allowed one run on five hits and three walks with three strikeouts.
The Pioneers jumped to a 3-0 lead in the first after Kulnis' homer and tacked on three more in the second that was highlighted by RBI singles from sophomore leftfielder Kerry Fisher (Barto, Pa.) and an RBI walk from freshman second baseman #Rogin Hardy# (Kirkland, Wash.).
The fourth inning saw the host team score five runs on three hits and two errors. Hardy drove in a run on a single to the shortstop and sophomore third baseman Kendall Bright (Manlius, N.Y.) added a two-run double to left center.
Queens scored its only run of the game in the top of the fifth when freshman leftfielder Carla Pennolino (Middle Village, N.Y.) crossed the plate on an RBI walk.
Fisher went 2-for-2 at the plate with an RBI and scored three runs for C.W. Post.
Junior pitcher Julia Carbone (East Williston, N.Y.) took the loss after allowing two earned runs on five hits over two and two thirds innings.
In the nightcap, the Pioneers put three runs on the board in the second with the aid of three Knights errors. 
The Pioneers would add one run in each of the fourth and fifth innings before closing the game out in the sixth, scoring three runs on three hits and two errors. Kulnis recorded her fifth RBI of the day with an RBI single to right field to end the game.
Sophomore pitcher Hayley Bettles (Surrey, British Columbia) went the distance in the pitcher's circle and pitched her third shutout for the win, scattering five hits over six innings with seven strikeouts.
Senior centerfielder Melissa Medina (Levittown, N.Y.) batted 2-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored for the Pioneers.
Freshman Faith Tessmer (Lebanon, Ohio) took the loss for the Knights after allowing two earned runs on nine hits with five strikeouts.
C.W. Post returns to action on Saturday, March 27 when it hosts Northeast-10 opponent Southern New Hampshire for a 12 p.m. start.
