Softball Out To 3-1 Start In Florida
KISSIMMEE, Fla. (March 8, 2010) – The C.W. Post softball team is off to a 3-1 start this week in its first week of action in 2010.
The Pioneers took two wins on Sunday, first with a 5-2 decision over Clarion University and a 6-0 win against Stonehill College.
Junior pitcher
Christina Berardi (Raynham, Mass.) went the distance in the circle against Clarion and allowed two runs on five hits and two walks while striking out three batters for her first win.
Junior pitcher
Sarah Kiser (Arnold, Md.) pitched a seven-inning shutout against Stonehill and scattered four hits with one walk while sitting down 12 batters. Sophomore outfielder
Kerry Fisher (Barto, Pa.) paced the Pioneers with a double and a triple. She opened the seventh inning with a two-run double against the Skyhawks.
Freshman second baseman
Rogin Hardy (Kirkland, Wash.) went 6-for-7 at the plate in both games with two doubles, four singles and two RBI.
The Pioneers lost a close game to Slippery Rock 1-0. Berardi pitched four and two thirds innings and allowed five hits and a walk. Sophomore Hayley Choquette-Bettles (Surrey, B.C.) came in relief to pitch two and two thirds innings and allowed two hits while striking out five.
Senior first baseman
Shannon Kulnis (Flemington, N.J.) broke a 1-1 tie against Edinboro with a bases-clearing double. Sophomore catcher
Kristen Morcone (Milton, Mass.) also had an RBI for the Pioneers.
Kiser allowed just three hits and two walks over seven innings and struck out 12 batters for her second win.
C.W. Post returns to action on Wednesday against Minnesota-Mankato and University of the Sciences of Pennsylvania.
