– Senior shortstop Christie Softy (Floral Park, N.Y.) blasted a walk-off grand slam to left center field in the bottom of the sixth inning that sent No. 18 C.W. Post to a 10-2 win in the second game of an East Coast Conference softball doubleheader played at the Softball Complex. The Pioneers also won game one, 2-1.

In the first game, the teams were scoreless through three innings until the Pioneers put two on the board with RBI singles from Softy and freshman catcher Nicole Capella (Shirley, N.Y.) in the bottom half of the fourth.

The Bears scored their lone run in the top of the sixth when senior third baseman Brooklynn Fields (Aurora, Colo.) reached on an RBI fielder's choice that scored senior center fielder Anna Hernandez (Tuscon, Ariz.) from third.

Junior pitcher Sarah Kiser (Arnold, Md.) went the distance to earn her 16th win of the season and allowed one run on four hits with 12 strikeouts.

Sophomore left fielder Kerry Fisher (Barto, N.Y.) batted 2 for 3 at the plate and came around to score the winning run in the fourth.

Hernandez led the Bears in hitting, going 2 for 3 at the plate with a run scored. Sophomore pitcher Jamie Brooker (Callahan, Fla.) took the loss and was charged with two runs on seven hits with six strikeouts over six innings pitched.

In the nightcap, the Pioneers scored a pair of runs in each of the third and fourth innings. Softy drove in two on a base hit to left center in the third while senior right fielder Katie Fisher (Barto, N.Y.) hit an RBI double to right center in the fourth and later came around to score the second run of the inning on a passed ball.

The Bears scored two in the top of the fifth courtesy of a two-run homer to left center off the bat of junior left fielder Patricia Memale (Oro Valley, Ariz.). But that was all the runs the Bears' offense would score for the rest of the game as junior Christina Berardi (Raynham, Mass) came on in relief of starter Hayley Bettles (Surrey, British Columbia and got out of the inning with a ground out and a strike out.

The Pioneers added one run in the fifth when Katie Fisher singled to left field to score senior first baseman Shannon Kulnis (Flemington, N.J.) from third.

In the sixth inning, senior center fielder Melissa Medina (Levittown, N.Y.) also notched an RBI with a single back to the pitcher that scored sophomore designated player Krysta Palazzo (Sea Cliff, N.Y.) from second.

With Medina already on base, Kerry Fisher reached on a single to the pitcher and sophomore second baseman Rogin Hardy (Kirkland, Wash.) followed up with a single to third base, setting up a bases loaded situation for Softy, who followed with the home run.

Softy finished the game batting 3 for 4 with six RBI and a run scored. Katie Fisher batted 2 for 3 at the plate with two RBI and a run scored and sister, Kerry, was 1 for 3 with two runs scored.
