BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (April 27, 2010)- The C.W. Post Department of Athletics held its annual Student-Athlete recognition dinner, honoring athletes for their performance both on and off the field. Pioneer seniors were recognized for their accomplishments on and off the field over the past four years, and each team recognized several athletes for their outstanding accomplishments.  In addition, the C.W. Post Department of Athletics major award winners were honored.

Male Student Athlete of the Year - #Mike Cama# (Levittown, N.Y.)
A force to be reckoned with on the playing field, senior midfielder Mike Cama has led the nation in face-off win percentage the last two seasons. A two-time All-American, he helped lead the Pioneers to their second national title in program history. This year, he currently leads the nation in face-offs (189 of 259) and ground balls per game, and his leadership and experience has helped keep the Pioneers on track for another postseason run.
Female Student Athlete of the Year - #Christie Softy# (Floral Park, N.Y.)
Senior shortstop Christie Softy stepped onto the field as a freshman and made an immediate impact with the swing of her bat, knocking 15 home runs during her first season with the Pioneers and helping to advance the team to its first World Series. Earlier this season, Softy claimed the school's career home run record when she blasted her 35th homer against Molloy and she currently has 46 home runs to her credit.
Dean Roy Illowitt Award -  #Kim Williams# (Long Valley, N.J.)
Senior midfielder Kim Williams is a two-time All-American who has played in 68 games on the Pioneer's nationally ranked women's lacrosse team. On the field she plays with tremendous fight and speed. She is a team's worst nightmare and makes even the best players look foolish when she steals the ball and races down the field for another Pioneer goal. She is always supportive of other athletics teams and encourages interaction and support amongst the student-athletes. She is an excellent student in the classroom and will graduate with a degree in elementary education.
Christine Webb Award - #Kian Lyons# (Farmingdale, N.Y.)
Kian Lyons has played in 53 games in her career for the Pioneers and on the field, she is a fierce competitor and is an intimidating player. Says head coach Meghan McNamara, “I'm happy she's on MY team”.   Off the field, Kian has done an outstanding job in getting our student body more involved in campus-wide initiatives including volunteering and service to others. As president of the Student Athlete Advisory Committee she regularly attends Student Government Meetings. She was the recipient of the Elizabeth King Award and also serves as president of the NSSCHA organization for speech. On April 10, she organized “Pioneering For Ava” in support of nemaline myopathy.
Pioneer Excellence Award Winners

Kris Frick (Bermuda)
Kris Frick was recognized as the East Coast Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Year for excellence in the classroom. He captained the men's soccer team to the ECC Championship game as the Pioneers defeated Dowling for the title. As vice-president of the SAAC Committee, he is passionate about improving the quality of life for the student body on campus.
Kristen Sweeney (Kennebunkport, Maine)
Kristen Sweeney has been an outstanding member of our cross country program the last four years. She was a three-time ECC All-Conference selection and has managed to secure a spot on 4 of C.W. Post All Time Runners List in her four year stay: 7th fastest 5k by a female pioneer (2009); 10th fastest Van Cortlandt 5K (2006);  10th fastest 6K (2008); 5th fastest track 5k (2010).
Brittany Roman-Green (Woodstock, N.Y.)
Brittany Roman-Green has been a standout swimmer during her career with the Pioneers. Brittany's development from a good swimmer to a National competitor is a reflection of her hard work and dedication not only during the swim season but during the off season as well. Her focus and drive helped her qualify for the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships during her sophomore year as a member of the Medley Relay and Freestyle Relay teams. As a junior and senior her times continued to drop significantly and she qualified for NCAA's in multiple individual events (50 and 100 Free, 100 and 200 Back) as well as being a key player on the qualifying Medley and Freestyle relays.
