No. 24 Softball Advances At NCAA East Regional With 2-1 Win Over Dominican

BROOKHAVEN, N.Y. (May 15, 2010) – The hitting duo of sophomore third baseman Kendall Bright (Manlius, N.Y.) and freshman second baseman Rogin Hardy (Kirkland, Wash.) helped push runs across the plate as No. 24 C.W. Post defeated Dominican College, 2-1, to advance in the NCAA Division II East Softball East Regional Saturday afternoon at Golden Lions Field. The Pioneers will face the loser of this afternoon's 1:30 p.m. Dowling/Molloy game later today at 4 p.m.
C.W. Post improves to 41-15 overall while Dominican ends its season at 37-16.
The Pioneers scored the game's first run in the bottom of the second inning when Bright hit a blistering single to left that scored senior first baseman
Shannon Kulnis (Flemington, N.J.) from third.
The Chargers got the run back in the top of the third when senior third baseman Cara Piasecki (Port Monmouth, N.J.) hit an RBI single to center to score senior Kelly Rehm (Livingston, N.J.).
The Pioneers scored the go-ahead run in the bottom half of the inning when Hardy laced a single up the middle that scored senior centerfielder
Melissa Medina (Levittown, N.Y.), who reached base on a throwing error and advanced all the way to third on the same play.
Junior
Sarah Kiser (Arnold, Md.) held the Chargers hitless for the next three innings until the top of the seventh when she gave up two one-out singles before getting out of the jam with a flyout and a pop up to end the game.
Hardy finished the game with two hits and an RBI and Bright had one hit and an RBI.
Kiser went the distance in the circle and allowed one run on five hits and a walk with two strikeouts.
Freshman Delaney Childers (Johnstown, Ohio) was charged with the loss after allowing one earned run on five hits and a walk with two strikeouts.
