Men Selected First, Women Third in the ECC Cross Country Preseason Poll
CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. (Aug. 30, 2009) – With the 2010 preseason polls now released, the C.W. Post Cross Country team looks to have a big year, as the men finished first at top of the polls, and the women finished third. C.W. Post runner Christian Altamura (Seaford, N.Y.) also earned the honor of being named ECC Runner of the Year on the male side.
The men's cross country compiled 61 points inside the East Coast Conference poll, including five first place votes, which helped to earn the top spot on the poll. In 2009, the Pioneer men claimed the title at the ECC Championships, and will look to reach that plateau again. Molloy and Dowling were the other two teams to receive first place votes. Molloy placed second in the poll, while Dowling is in the fifth slot.
Sophomore Christian Altamura comes off a year in which he helped lead the Pioneers to the ECC Championships top spot, an event in which Altamura and three other Pioneers finished in the top 14. He led all runners, and helped earn himself Rookie of the Year in the conference.
On the women's side, C.W. Post tallied 47 points in the poll, placing them in third on the poll. Queens finished first in the poll, where it received 53 points, including five first place votes. Finishing one point ahead of C.W. Post in the poll at second was NYIT, which also earned two first place votes.
The cross country team will begin its season with the Hofstra Invitational. The event will take place on Sept. 11.
