BETHPAGE, N.Y. (Sept. 11, 2010) – The Hofstra Invite was the first competition that the Cross Country teams have participated in this season. Each team would finish third respectively, behind some great efforts from both squads.
The men would finish third with 70 points, behind first place Adelphi, 29, and second place Hofstra, 44.
Senior
Vincent Giambanco (Muttontown, N.Y.) would lead the men's team, as he was the first Pioneer to cross the 8k course with a time of 26:28, which the fourth place time of the day. Sophomore
Thomas Speicher (Levittown, N.Y.) would be the second Pioneer to finish, in 11
th place overall, with a time of 27:05. Right behind Speicher would be freshman
Joseph Lasher (Seaford, N.Y.), who finished 12
th overall at the time of 27:36.
Also finishing for the Pioneers would be sophomore
Matthew O'Keefe (East Rockaway, N.Y.) in 15
th place at a time of 28:09. Sophomore
David Johnson (Flushing, N.Y.) would respectively finish in 30
th place, with a time of 32:31.
On the women's side, Hofstra would lead all teams in the 5k course with 35 points. Adelphi would place second with 42 points, followed by the C.W. Post Pioneers in third place. The Pioneers would accumulate 82 points in the effort. Senior
Erin Lusenskas (East Atlantic Beach, N.Y.) and sophomore
Caitlin Smith (Levittown, N.Y.) would be the first two Pioneers to cross the finish line. Lusenskas would register a time of 21:13, good enough for 12
th, while Smith finished six seconds behind in 13
th overall.
Freshman
Jennifer McLaughlin (Seaford, N.Y.) would follow with a time of 21:37 – 16
th overall. Fellow freshmen
Angelica Price (Islip, N.Y.) and
Karissa Chiantella (Bayville, N.Y.) would place of times of 22:06 and 22:13 to finish 20
th and 22
nd overall. Sophomore
Katherine Wilkens (Woodbury, N.Y.) registered a time of 22:46 to finish 25
th. Finishing 35
th and 36
th overall would be freshman
Sarah McLaughlin (Seaford, N.Y.) and junior
Angela Pereira, with times of 23:57 and 23:58.
Next for the men and women cross country teams will be at home with the C.W. Post Invite. The meet will take place in Brookville on Sept. 18.
