Women’s Soccer Draws With Philadelphia, 2-2
PHILADELPHIA, PA. (Sept. 15, 2010) – Senior Ivana Babic (Haninge, Sweden) wound up with three points, a goal and an assist, in a 2-2 outcome between the Pioneers and Philadelphia University. Babic led a C.W. Post attack that would take a total of 20 shots in the game.
The senior opened up the scoring in the game with a shot that hit the back of the net 24 minutes into the game. The remainder of the first half would be scoreless, as both goalkeepers notched 9 saves between them. C.W. Post junior goalkeeper Allie Weiser (Grand Island, N.Y.) would make five of her 11 saves in the first half.
20 minutes into the second half, Philadelphia would tie up the score at one with a goal from inside the box on the right side by Trisha Sileo, with Brittany MacDonald credited with the assist. Less than 10 minutes later, the Pioneers would take the lead again as Babic served as the distributor on a goal by senior Jackie Sousa (North Reading, Mass.).
The lead would not last long however, for in the 81st minute the Pioneers would let up an own goal on a miscue in the backfield. The two overtime periods would go scoreless despite the Pioneers controlling the majority of the action, with goalkeeper Weiser making a combined three saves in the two periods.
The women's soccer team will return to action on Saturday Sept. 18, as they will open up conference play on the road against rival Molloy.
