Box Score
SPRINGFIELD, MASS (Sept 4, 2010) - Cassie Ashwell scored the game-winning goal for American International one minute into the first overtime period as they handed C.W. Post women's soccer a hard-fought 2-1 loss on Saturday evening in non-conference women's soccer action.
AIC stands at 1-0 overall while C.W. Post is 0-1-1 on the season.
The Yellow Jackets took an early 1-0 lead 14 minutes into the contest, as Ashwell assisted on a Caroline Heron goal.
C.W. Post knotted the game at one apiece 40 hard fought minutes later as
Alexa Niciforo (East Islip, N.Y.) scored her first collegiate goal, with
Sannna Pettersson (Orebro, Sweden) being credited with the assist.
Neither team could find the back of the goal for the remainder of regulation time, and the game went into overtime. However, AIC needed less than a minute to knock off C.W. Post and earn the win behind Ashwell's unassisted tally at 90:50.
Junior goalkeeper
Allie Weiser (Grand Island, N.Y.) made five stops in goal for the Pioneers, who were outshot 18-8 and took two corners to AIC's four. Yellow Jackets keeper Sam Weber turned away six shots for the hosts.
The Pioneers return to action on Friday, September 10, as they take on Post University at Molloy College at 6 p.m.
