VAN CORTLANDT PARK (Oct. 2, 2011) – The C.W. Post cross country program had a very successful day on Sunday at the Lightning Invitational as both teams earned first place finishes behind strong team running.  Matthew O'Keefe (East Rockaway, N.Y.) led the Pioneers with a first place finishing time of 27:49.83 on the 8k course.

O'Keefe was the first male runner to cross the finish line, but his teammates did not trail far behind him as C.W. Post occupied first through fourth place on the results list.  Raymond Coyle (Woodhaven, N.Y.), Christian Altamura (Seaford, N.Y.), and Richard Schmitz (Farmingdale, N.Y.) finished in order from second to fourth to complete the C.W. Post control of the top four spots.  Thomas Speicher (Levittown, N.Y.) also finished in the top 10 with a ninth place completion of the course.

Jennifer McLaughlin's (Seaford, N.Y.) second place finish of 20:27.78 on the female's 5k course helped lead the Pioneer women to a first place team finish.  C.W. Post then, in comparison to the men, also manipulated four straight finishing spots as Pioneers women were listed in order from eighth to 11th.  That order was completed Caitlin Smith (Levittown, N.Y.), Shayln Stehl (Wantagh, N.Y.), Sara McLaughlin (Seaford, N.Y.), and Alexa Montergari (Wanaque, N.J.).

The Pioneers will look to keep this momentum going next weekend as both the men and women teams will travel to Newark, N.J.  The program is scheduled to participate in the NJIT Highlander Invitational on Oct. 9.
