BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Oct. 23, 2011) - Both the men and women's cross country teams took home the crown of 2011 ECC Cross Country Champions earlier today.  Each Pioneer squad earned the victory on the home meet course of C.W. Post campus.

This marks the third straight ECC Title for the men's team and the fourth championship since 2006 and the first ever ECC title for the women's program.   This is also the first time that the men and women cross country championships were awarded to the same school in the ECC since Adelphi won the women's championship and shared the title with C.W. Post in men's field back in 2006.

In five seasons now, head coach Rob Morris and assistant coach Christa Morris have totaled five championships together for both the men and women's cross country programs.  For this current year, Coach Morris was named ECC Men's and Women's Coach of the Year.

As for the individual competitors, four runners on each the male and female sides landed on the All-Conference teams.

Christian Altamura (Seaford, N.Y.) placed on the All-Conference First Team with his third place overall 26:01.44 finishing time on the 8k course, making it his second year in a row on the first team.  Matthew O'Keefe (East Rockaway, N.Y.) and Raymond Coyle (Woodhaven, N.Y.) finished back-to-back in fifth and sixth place to also land on the first team.  The two runners ran respective times of 26:31.84 and 26:34.48.  Richard Schmitz (Farmingdale, N.Y.) was the lone Pioneer on the second team, coming in eight place overall with a time of 26:48.57.  Overall, five male Pioneers finished among the top 17 runners.

For the Pioneer women, five runners were among the first 15 competitors to complete the course.  Jennifer McLaughlin (Seaford, N.Y.) finished the 5k course in a time of 19:52.91 to finish sixth overall and placed on the All-Conference First Team.  Alexa Montegari (Wanaque, N.J.) and Caitlin Smith (Levittown, N.Y.) finished in consecutive order with 10th and 11th place finishes for 20:15.89 and 20:29.31 finishing times respectively to land on the All-Conference Second Team.  Jessica Wiking (Farmingdale, N.Y.) joined Montegari and Smith on the team with a 21:06.71, 14th place finish.

Next for the cross country teams will be the NCAA Regionals in Boston, Mass.  The meet is scheduled to take place in two on Nov. 6.
