Kutztown Scores in Second Half to Defeat Women's Soccer, 1-0

Box Score BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Oct. 25, 2011) – The Kutztown Golden Bears used a goal nearly 20 minutes into the second half to defeat the C.W. Post women's soccer team, 1-0, earlier today on Robert Blitz Field. 

C.W. Post's record drops to 8-5-1 on the year.  Kutztown improves to 13-4 with the victory. 

After a first half that saw a combined eight shots, five by Kutztown and three by C.W. Post, neither team could find the back of the net and the scoreboard remained unchanged going into the break. 

Both teams continued the defensive battle early into the second half.  However, the Golden Bears managed to finally connect on a goal in the 65th minute off the foot of Bella Jaffin.  Jaffin collected a defensive deflection in front of the net and then put her shot into the bottom of the net from about seven yards out to put Kutztown up 1-0. 

That score remained throughout the final portion of the game, as neither team could put a shot in on either team's keeper. 

For the Golden Bears, Casey Behrendt made four saves in her 90 minutes of play between the posts.  For the Pionners, Allie Weiser (Grand Island, N.Y.) stopped three shot during her first half of duty.  Nicole Fierro (East Hampton, N.Y.) came on for Weiser after the halftime break and made one save. 

The Golden Bears held advantages in both shots, 10-7, and corners, 8-0, over the Pioneers.  Janine Valerio led Kutztown with three shots taken, including one on target.  For C.W. Post, Morgan Kitton (Bellmore, N.Y.) and Elsa Klarin (Lund, Sweden) each took the lead with two shots a piece. 

Next on the schedule for the Pioneers will be the season-finale on Saturday afternoon.  C.W. Post will be hosting the Molloy Lions for a conference match, set to begin at 12 p.m. on Robert Blitz Field.
