BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (March 27, 2011)
– Freshman third baseman Nicole Hagenah (Commack, N.Y.) batted 3-for-6 and drove in three runs on two home runs in two games against Queens College as C.W. Post split its ECC softball doubleheader with the Knights, losing game one, 5-1, and rebounding with a 3-2 win in game two.
 
C.W. Post's record now stands at 9-5 and 3-1 in conference play. Queens is 10-8 overall and 3-1 in the ECC.
 
The teams played through four scoreless innings in game one before the Pioneers went ahead in the bottom of the fourth when Hagenah took a 3-1 pitch and cleared it past left centerfield. 
 
The lead did not stick for long as the Knights rallied to score four runs in the top of the fifth, including a bases-clearing double from Anniela Vaccaro. Queens added one more run in the sixth when Catherine Pastor came around to score on an infield fielding error.
 
Queens tallied seven this in the game to C.W. Post's four.
 
Vaccaro was 1-for-4 with three RBI and a run scored. Faith Tessmer went the distance and earned her second win of the year. She allowed one earned run on four hits and two walks while striking out three batters.
 
Freshman Jessica Julich (Kings Park, N.Y.) led the Pioneers with two hits. Senior Sarah Kiser (Arnold, Md.) was tagged with the loss after surrendering two earned runs on three hits and two walks while striking out five. Junior Hayley Bettles (Surrey, British Columbia) came on in relief to pitch two and two thirds innings and allowed two earned runs on four hits and two walks with two strikeouts.
 
In the nightcap, the Pioneers took a 2-0 lead in the bottom half of the third on account of RBI doubles from junior centerfielder Kerry Fisher (Barto, Pa.) and Hagenah.
 
The Knights tied the game up in the top of the sixth when Vaccaro drilled a two-run home run out to right centerfield. Senior starting pitcher Christina Berardi (Raynham, Mass.) retired the next two batters to end the inning.
 
In the bottom half of the inning, Hagenah put the Pioneers back on top with a leadoff home run to right field.
 
Hagenah was 2-for-3 in the game with two RBI and a run scored. Fisher was also 2-for-3 at the plate with an RBI and a run scored.
 
Berardi earned the win in the circle. She allowed two runs on five hits while striking out six batters.
 
Caroline Carbone led the Knights with two hits while Vaccaro was 1-for-3 with two RBI and a run scored.
 
Bryttne Santana was charged with the loss after allowing three runs on seven hits with three strikeouts.
 
C.W. Post is back in action on Monday, March 28 when it hosts
