Cross Country's Offseason Training Makes a Stop at Millersville
MILLERSVILLE, PA. (April 11, 2011) – The men's and women's cross country teams took part in another off-season competition, taking part in the Millersville Metrics on Saturday, April 10. The Pioneers participated in seven different events.
The first event on the day was the women's 5000 meter run. Four different Pioneers participated, with Jennifer McLaughlin (Seaford, N.Y.) coming in with a third place finish at a time of 19:21.22. Caitlin Smith (Levittown, N.Y.) finished sixth with her time of 20:09.54, and then Katherine Wilkens (Woodbury, N.Y.) and Angela Pereira (Islip, N.Y.) finished back-to-back in ninth and tenth place. Wilkens finished at 21:43.37, with Pereira coming in at 21:50.79.
The men then took part in their own 5000 meter run, with Joseph Lasher (Seaford, N.Y.) and Matthew O'Keefe (East Rockaway, N.Y.) finishing third and fourth in the field. Lasher took in a time of 15:47.35, with O'Keefe completing the course at a time of 15:53.45. Raymond Coyle (Woodhaven, N.Y.) came in sixth with his 16:09.83 finishing time, with a 16:50.34 completion time landing Thomas Speicher (Levittown, N.Y.) in ninth place.
Christian Altamura (Seaford, N.Y.) was the lone Pioneer runner to participate in the 3000 Meter Steeplechase, finishing second with his 9:41.15 time. The sophomore also later on competed in the 800 Meter Run, finishing 20th with a 1:59.73 time.
During the women's 1500 Meter Run, Karissa Chiantella (Bayville, N.Y.) finished 21st in with a 5:15.01 finishing time. Male runner, Michael Fitzsimmons (Hazlet, N.J.), completed the 1500 Meter run in 5:08.31 to land in 29th.
Vincent Giambanco (Muttontown, N.Y.) was the last Pioneer to run on the day, taking part in the 1 Mile Run. Giambanco finished fifth with a 4:23.26 finishing time.
