Cross Country and Track Alumni Excelling All Over
BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Sept. 8, 2011) – C.W. Post alumni athletes have been shining across the country when it comes to those who were a part of the cross country and tracks teams for Pioneer squads from the past. Those athletes that current cross country head coach
Rob Morris would like to have noticed are Thomas Brouillard, Vin Lananna, and Maia Michta.
Tom Brouillard, a current assistant coach for C.W. Post's cross country team and 2010 graduate, completed his first marathon in San Francisco on August 1st. Brouillard ran an impressive time of two hours and 59 minutes, qualifying him for the historic Boston Marathon with the 49th place finish out of 5,999 runners that took part in the race. Out of the 249 20 to 24 year olds that participated in the marathon, Brouillard finished sixth.
Vin Lananna, a 1975 graduate and a member of the C.W. Post Athletics Hall of Fame, is currently the head coach of the University of Oregon cross country teams as well as an Associate Athletic Director. He has become one of the premier leaders in track and field in the U.S., as well as leading Oregon to great success in the past few years alone. The team has received bids in the 2008 and 2012 Olympic Trials, the 2010, 2013, and 2014 Track & Field Championships and the 2009 and 2011 USATF Championships. Aside from his duties at Oregon, Lananna also guided Team USA at the 2011 IAAF World Track & Field Championships in Daegu, South Korea. The team had one of the best showings of a Team USA at any World Championships.
At the 2011 USA Championship, Maria Michta, a cross country and track alumni and 2008 graduate, won the 2011 USA Championship title in the race walk. With this victory, she earned a spot in the 2011 World Championships. Michta captured the USA Indoor and Outdoor titles in the race walk for two straight years. Other career highlights include the 2010 USA 30 km RW runner-up, the 2005 and 2009 US RW Cup Trials Champion, 2005 Pan Am RW runner-up, and a 2003 USA Junior Outdoor runner-up.
