Vistnes and Fierro Garner ECC Awards For Second Straight Week
CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. (Oct. 1, 2012) - The LIU Post women's soccer team picked up a pair of weekly awards from the East Coast Conference for the second straight week as freshman
Susanne Vistnes (Randaberg, Norway) was named the Offensive Player of the Week and senior
Nicole Fierro (East Hampton, N.Y.) was named the Defensive Player of the Week.
Vistnes scored four goals and added four assists en route to a 12-point week that lifted the Pioneers to a 2-0 record. She assisted on all three goals against Nyack, then followed up by scoring the game-winner against St. Thomas Aquinas. She had a hand in the first four goals of the day against the Lady Spartans, scoring the first, assisting on the second, then scoring on the third and fourth to complete the hat trick.
Fierro posted two wins and one shutout during a 2-0 week for the Pioneers. She played 165:07 minutes and made ten stops while allowing only two goals in two games.
The LIU Post women's soccer team moved up to 15th in this weeks' NSCAA poll and claimed the No. 2 spot in the regional rankings, followed by a 2-0 week with wins over Nyack (3-2) and St. Thomas Aquinas (6-0). Vistnes had a stellar week by scoring 12 points with four goals and four assists, while
Alexa Niciforo (East Islip, N.Y.) chipped in with two goals and an assist and five other Pioneers tallied solo goals. With a record of 8-1-1 overall and 4-0 in conference play, the Pioneers are outscoring their opponents by a margin of 31-11, led by 10 goals and seven assists from Vistnes, five goals and four assists from Niciforo, and six goals and one assist from
Hanna Westerling (Alvadalen, Sweden). LIU Post continues ECC play this week with a trip to Mercy on Oct. 3.
