Men's Cross Country Grabs Fourth Consecutive ECC Title; Stirling Named Female Rookie Of The Year, Morris Tabbed Men's Coach Of The Year
BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Oct. 21, 2012) – The LIU Post men's cross country team took home the 2012 East Coast Conference Championship earlier today for its fourth consecutive conference championship. The women placed second overall.
This ECC conference championship was held at the LIU Post campus in Brookville for the fourth straight year. During his tenure at LIU Post, head coach
Rob Morris has now accumulated five championships between the men's and women's programs. Coach Morris was named ECC Men's Coach of the Year for the fourth consecutive year.
As for the individual competitors, four men and two women runners landed on the All-Conference teams.
Senior
Thomas Speicher (Levittown, N.Y.) placed on the All-Conference First Team with his fifth place overall 26:37.80 finishing time on the 8k course. Freshman
Steven Arnone (Staten Island, N.Y.) finished in ninth place with a time of 26:53.00 landing him on the second team. Joining Arnone on the second team were seniors
Christian Altamura (Seaford, N.Y.) and
Ray Coyle (Woodhaven, N.Y.). The seniors finished back-to-back in 11th and 12th running respective times of 27:05.80 and 27:07.20.
Joseph Lasher (Seaford, N.Y.) narrowly missed out on joining the All-Conference team, finishing 16th with a time of 27:35.50.
For the Pioneer women, five runners were among the first 30 competitors to complete the course. Freshman
Elizabeth Stirling (Wantagh, N.Y.) led the way for the Pioneers, finishing the 5k course in a time of 19:24.20 to finish sixth overall. This time ties her for fifth fastest time in a 5k by a Pioneer woman. Her sixth place finish notched her as the lone Pioneer woman on the All-Conference First Team, and her time also tabbed her as Female Rookie of the Year. Junior
Jenn McLaughlin (Seaford, N.Y.) finished close behind with a time of 19:57.30, good for 11th place. Senior
Caitlin Smith (Levittown, N.Y.) and junior
Angelica Price (Tampa, Fla.) finished in 17th and 19th place with times of 20:22.80 and 20:27.80, respectively. Sophomore
Alexa Montegari (Wanaque, N.J.) crossed the finish line with a time of 21:08.00, good for 28th overall.
Next up for the Pioneers will be the NCAA Regionals in Nashua, N.H. The meet is scheduled to take place on Nov. 4.
