BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Oct. 21, 2012) – The LIU Post softball team recently completed community service projects with the Miracle League and Kicks for Cancer over the last two weekends.  At each event, the Pioneers provided assistance in helping to raise money for the both organizations.

The Miracle League of Long Island is a charitable organization that provides baseball leagues for children with disabilities.  Its objective is to provide an opportunity for those individuals to experience the joy and benefits that come from playing our national pastime. The aim is to help the league's players develop social skills and increase self-esteem, while promoting community support and sponsorship for the league.

Kicks for Cancer is a fundraiser that is held during a Hauppauge High School soccer game and was founded in support of Courtney Tomkin, who lost her battle with brain cancer.  It began in 2008 and 56 teams have dedicated a game in honor of Courtney on Long Island.  More than $100,000 has been raised in the last five years for the cause.
