Box Score BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (October 24, 2012) - Freshman Susanne Vistnes' (Randberg, Norway) 17th goal of the year was the lone tally of Wednesday's contest as the No. 4 LIU Post women's soccer team made an early 1-0 lead stand for the remainder of the game in defeating the Southern New Hampshire University Penmen in non-conference action.

The Pioneers improve to 14-1-2 on the season, while the Penmen slide to 9-5-3.

The game was a battle for possession early on, with neither team managing a shot for the first five minutes.  The Pioneers were down two starting forwards, but Vistnes gave her team some breathing room early as she found herself making a run up the middle with space to carry.  She took a long shot from past the 18 that the SNHU goalkeeper tried to stop, but it deflected off her hands into the upper left corner.

The Penmen held a shot (8-2) and possession advantage for the first half, but the Pioneer defense held firm and did not allow many quality chances.

Coming out of the halftime break, the Pioneers settled in and began to control the pace of the game, putting several shots on the SNHU net.  But as the minutes ticked down, SNHU began to push for the equalizer, as senior goalkeeper Nicole Fierro (East Hampton, N.Y.) made a leaping deflection on Ashley Jaskula's shot with 4:47 remaining to keep the Pioneer  lead intact.

The Penmen held a 16-7 shot advantage for the game, along with a 5-2 edge in corners.  Fierro made 10 saves in the win, while Maggie Weldon took the loss allowing the tally before giving way to Samantha  Whittier, who made three stops in 73:39 minutes of action.

The Pioneers wrap up the regular season with a Saturday afternoon road contest at Philadelphia University.
