Offense Lifts No. 5 Bloomsburg Over No. 8 Field Hockey, 4-1
Box Score BLOOMSBURG, Pa. (Oct. 3, 2012) – Fifth-ranked Bloomsburg University snapped a two-game losing streak with a 4-1 win over No. 8 LIU Post Wednesday afternoon in a PSAC East field hockey matchup at Sports Stadium.
Bloomsburg's record improves to 10-3 overall and 4-1 in the PSAC East while LIU Post slips to 5-6 overall and 2-3 in conference play.
The Huskies took a 2-0 lead in the first half with goals from Brooke Simonovich in the 17th minute and Brittany Mathews in the 28th minute. Alexis Weber put Bloomsburg up, 3-0, in the 48th minute.
The Pioneers got on the board in the 60th minute when junior
Carlee Dragon (Bridgewater, N.J.) scored on a cross from the right from sophomore
Taylor-Bay Sutton (Phillipsburg, N.J.) to cut the lead to 3-1.
Bloomsburg broke through for one more score with 20 seconds remaining in regulation on a goal from Amber Aulenbach.
Bloomsburg finished the game outshooting LIU Post, 17-16. The Pioneers held an 8-6 advantage in penalty corners.
Sophomore
Becca May (Swedesboro, N.J.) made eight saves in goal. Bloomsburg's Megan Eppley stopped nine shots to preserve the win. Senior
Kellie Finn (Goshen, Conn.) recorded two defensive saves.
The Pioneers return to action on Saturday, Oct. 6 when they host East Stroudsburg at 3 p.m.
