No. 11 Women's Soccer Slips Past Mercy 1-0 in Double Overtime

Hanna Westerling (Alvadalen, Sweden) scored the game winner in the 104th minute for the No. 11 LIU Post women's soccer team, as it posted a 1-0 double overtime victory over Mercy College on Wednesday afternoon in East Coast Conference action.
The Pioneers win their fifth straight as they improve to 9-1-1 overall and 4-0 in conference play. Mercy dips to 3-9 overall and 0-5 in ECC action.
The two teams were scoreless through two halves of regulation play, despite a 17-10 shot advantage for the Pioneers, along with a 7-3 edge in corner kicks.
The first OT stanza was much of the same as each team as each team managed just one shot.

Alexa Niciforo (East Islip, N.Y.) passed to Westerling at the front of the goal. The freshman chipped it over Mercy GK Stephanie DiLegge's head for the victory.
Game totals were in favor of the Pioneers as the visitors held a19-13 edge in shots and a7-3 edge in corners. Senior goalkeeper
Nicole Fierro (East Hampton, N.Y.) made four stops on the day, while her counterpart, DiLegge, made seven saves.
The Pioneers return home in their next outing, taking on Bridgeport on Saturday, Oct. 6, starting at 1 p.m.
