No. 11 Women's Soccer Dispatches Bridgeport, 3-1
Box Score BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Oct. 6, 2012) – In a battle for sole possession of first place in the East Coast Conference, the No. 11 LIU Post women's soccer team came out on top, 3-1, over the University of Bridgeport on Saturday afternoon.
The Pioneers improved to 10-1-1 on the season and at 5-0, remain in the top spot in the conference, while Bridgeport sees its five game unbeaten streak snapped as it drops to 6-4-1 and 4-1 in conference action.
Freshman forward
Susanne Vistnes (Randaberg, Norway) gave the Pioneers an early lift when she took a through ball from freshman
Hanna Westerling (Alvadalen, Sweden), beat the Bridgeport keeper to the left, and tapped in a quick shot for a 1-0 lead.
Vistnes had a hand in the second goal as well, as she took a hard shot from the top of the box that was saved by the keeper, but deflected right to well-positioned junior
Alexa Niciforo (East Islip, N.Y.), who knocked it in easily for a 2-0 lead.
Vistnes scored her second of the day for a 3-0 Pioneer lead as she took a long through ball from senior
Prudence Rydstrom (Islip, N.Y.) and chipped a shot over the keepers head.
Bridgeport scored its only goal of the afternoon on a penalty kick in the 48th minute as Gabby Reis went to the lower left corner for the PK.
The shot count was very even as Bridgeport held a slight 16-15 edge, while the Pioneers took five corner kicks. Senior keeper
Nicole Fierro (East Hampton, N.Y.) made seven saves, while UB keeper Julia Hansson stopped five shots.
Next game for the Pioneers is a Thursday matchup at home on Oct. 11 against Wilmington starting at 3:30 p.m.
