Women's Soccer Places Five on Daktronics All-Region Teams

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (November 19, 2012)
– Five LIU Post women's soccer players were named to the Daktronics All-Region teams, it was announced on Monday.  Freshman Susanne Vistnes (Randaberg, Norway) and junior Karina Rizzo (Oceanside, N.Y.) were First Team selections, while junior Alexa Niciforo (East Islip, N.Y.), senior Prudence Rydstrom (Islip, N.Y.) and senior Nicole Fierro (East Hampton, N.Y.) earned Second Team accolades.  The Daktronics All-America and All-Region teams are selected by athletics communications professionals at NCAA Division II institutions.

Vistnes capped a tremendous freshman season with 19 goals and 9 assists for a total of 47 points.  Her scoring ranked in the top ten in several NCAA categories, including points per game and goals per game.  She earned ECC Player & Rookie of the Year as well as First Team All-Conference accolades.

Rizzo earned ECC Co-Defensive Player of the Year after she anchored a defense that allowed less than one goal per game.  The junior captain registered three assists on the season as she also earned First Team All-Conference accolades.

Niciforo earns All-Region honors for the third straight season, as she produced yet another strong offensive season, finishing second on the Pioneers with 25 points on nine goals and seven assists.   Her three game-winners were also second on the squad. 

Rydstrom and Fierro capped their senior seasons with All-Conference recognition as well, while Fierro also took home ECC Goalkeeper of the Year kudos.  Rydstrom, a four-year starter, scored five goals and notched two assists this season while playing a vital role in the central midfield for the Pioneers.  Fierro allowed a stingy 0.92 goals per game and made 107 saves for an .849 percentage, recording six shutouts while posting a 15-3-2 record.

The Pioneers finished their season with a 15-3-2 record, making an appearance in both the ECC Tournament and the NCAA tournament before falling to Dowling in the second round, 2-0.
