Men's And Women's Cross Country Compete At NCAA Division II Regional Meet

NASHUA, N.H. (Nov. 4, 2012) – Both the men's and women's cross country teams competed in the NCAA East Region Cross Country Championship Sunday afternoon at Mine Falls Park. Freshman
Elizabeth Stirling (Wantagh, N.Y.) finished 24th overall to earn all-region recognition.
The women grabbed a 14th overall team finish out of the 28 competing teams, while the men finished 16th overall as a team out of the 27 team pool.
The Pioneer women were the highest finishing East Coast Conference squad during the 6k run. Stirling once again was the lead runner for the women, finishing 24th overall with a time of 22:51.0, narrowly finishing behind Adelphi University's Jennifer McNally who had a time of 22:50.3. Stirling's time of 22:51 is the best 6k finish ever by a Pioneer woman.
Junior
Jenn McLaughlin (Seaford, N.Y.) finished second for the Pioneers with a time of 24:22.4, good for 81st overall. Right behind Mclaughlin was senior
Caitlin Smith (Levittown, N.Y.) with an overall time of 24:24.8, which granted her 83rd place. Juniors
Angelica Price (Tampa, Fla.) and
Sarah McLaughlin (Seaford, N.Y.) rounded out the Pioneer qualifiers in 89th and 113th places, with respective times of 24:35.9 and 25:13.6 for the 6k run.
American International College's Jeptui Cherutich crossed the finish line first with a time of 21:12.0, but Stonehill College captured the team victory with a cumulative time of 1:51:21.8 and a mere 67 total points.
On the men's side, senior
Thomas Speicher (Levittown, N.Y.) crossed the finish line first for the Pioneers at 68th overall with a time of 32:50.2. Freshman
Steven Arnone (Staten Island, N.Y.) was the second Pioneer male to finish with a time of 33:24.1, good for 84th place, and senior
Ray Coyle (Woodhaven, N.Y.) was right behind with a time of 33:34.2 and 90th place. Sophomore
Joseph Lasher (Seaford, N.Y.) and senior
Christian Altamura (Seaford, N.Y.) finished seconds apart in 98th and 101st places, with respective times of 34:05.4 and 34:09.4.
University of Massachusetts-Lowell's senior Jeff Veiga won the individual title finishing the 10k course with a time of 28:53.8. American International won the team title with 48 points and a cumulative time of 2:31:50.9.
