Pioneer Student-Athletes Help With Hurricane Sandy Relief Efforts in Rockaway Beach
BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (December 17, 2012) - A total of 66 Pioneer student-athletes representing ten LIU Post athletic teams volunteered their time last Friday in Rockaway Beach.
The athletes, along with six coaches, worked with AmeriCorp and were assigned to various houses in the area. They helped to gut the water-damaged houses and remove debris, spending several hours in the heavily damaged Rockaway Beach neighborhood.
The athletes were comprised of Student Athlete Advisory Committee representatives, SAAC advisor and head lacrosse coach
Meghan McNamara, head field hockey coach
Raenee Savin, head baseball coach
Bill Gaffney, three Pioneer assistant coaches, and representatives from women's soccer, women's lacrosse, field hockey, softball, baseball, men's lacrosse, cross country, swimming, volleyball, and football.
