Softball Splits Doubleheader With Dominican

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (March 15
, 2012) – C.W. Post split a doubleheader with Dominican College, losing the first game 6-1 before taking game two, 2-0, Thursday afternoon in a non-conference softball clash at the Softball Complex.
 
C.W. Post improves to 5-7 and will host Southern Connecticut on Saturday.  Dominican improves its overall record to 6-8.
 
In the matinee game, the Chargers put up three runs in the top of the first with a two-run double and an RBI single.  The visitors added another run in the second on a bases-loaded walk.
 
The Pioneers threatened in the fourth with runners on the corners but the Chargers got out of the jam with a lineout and a double play to end the inning.
 
Dominican scored a run in each of the sixth and seventh innings with a pair of RBI doubles to lead 6-0. 
 
C.W. Post finally got on the board in the bottom of the seventh when sophomore third baseman Alexis Gonzalez (Hauppauge, N.Y.) doubled to right center to score sophomore Carly Chamberlain (Nesco, N.J.), who had reached with a double and advanced to third on a throw.
 
Senior Hayley Bettles (Surrey, British Columbia) was charged with the loss after allowing four earned runs on three hits and four walks through an inning and a third.  Sophomore Liz Weber (Brightwaters, N.Y.) came in relief and scattered five hits and one earned run while striking out seven over five and two thirds innings.
 
Delaney Childers went the distance to get the win for the Chargers and allowed one run on four hits while striking out four batters.
 
In the nightcap, the teams kept each other off the scoreboard through the first four innings of the game.
 
The Pioneers broke through in the bottom of the fifth, beginning when Chamberlain laced an RBI triple down the left field line.  She came home in the next at bat on a sacrifice fly to center from Gonzalez.
 
Freshman left fielder Catherine Havens (Eastport, N.Y.) was 3-3 at the plate with a run scored for the Pioneers.  Freshman Megan Salcido (Brawley, Calif.) pitched a complete shutout and allowed five hits with four strikeouts.
 
Katrina Pistilli took the loss after giving up two runs on six hits and four walks with four strikeouts.
