Softball Splits Doubleheader With Merrimack

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (March 24, 2012) – Senior second baseman
Kendall Bright (Manlius, N.Y.) belted a leadoff home run to center field in the bottom of the seventh inning to score the game-winning run as C.W. Post defeated Merrimack College,3-2, in the matinee game Saturday afternoon in non-conference softball action at the Softball Complex. Merrimack rallied to take the second game, 3-1.
C.W. Post improves to 13-9 overall while Merrimack improves to 7-7.
The Warriors grabbed a 1-0 in the top of the third in the first game when third baseman Keaira Monet Perry led off with a shot to left center.
The Pioneers responded with a pair of runs in the bottom of the fourth with an RBI double to left field from sophomore third baseman
Nicole Hagenah (Commack, N.Y.) and an RBI single to right field from freshman catcher
Alyson Dzierzynski (Deer Park, N.Y.).
Merrimack tied the game up in the sixth on an RBI single from catcher Jenn Post.
Bright, who already had a hit in the game with a single in the third, swung on the first pitch of her at bat in the seventh to hit her first home run of the season.
Sophomore
Liz Weber (Brightwaters, N.Y.) earned her sixth win of the season in the circle. She let up one earned run on five hits and two walks while striking out eight batters.
Kelli Jo Deardorff took the loss for the Warriors after allowing three runs on five hits and three walks with three strikeouts.
In the second game, C.W. Post got on the board in the first inning when sophomore third baseman
Alexis Gonzalez (Hauppauge, N.Y.) singled to center field to score freshman center fielder
Catherine Havens (Eastport, N.Y.), who had reached with a lead-off single.
Merrimack tied the score in the fifth when shortstop Tawny Palmieri homered to left field. The Warriors took the lead on an RBI double to center from center fielder Monique Gosselin.
Merrimack tacked on an insurance run in the sixth when Perry singled to the shortstop that scored right fielder Nicole LoPilato from third.
Alie Thomas got the win for the Warriors after scattering six hits, two walks and one over seven innings.
Freshman
Megan Salcido (Brawley, Calif.) was charged with the loss after allowing two earned runs on eight hits and four walks while striking out four.
C.W. Post is back in action on Sunday, March 25 against Southern New Hampshire at 12 p.m.
