No. 12 Softball Drops Two Games To Minn. St.-Mankato, Saginaw Valley

, 2012) – After winning its first two games of the season, the 12th-ranked C.W. Post softball team dropped a pair of games to Minnesota State-Mankato, 6-1, and Saginaw Valley, 1-0, Monday afternoon at the Rebel Spring Games in Kissimmee, Fla.
 
C.W. Post evens its record out at 2-2 this season.  The Pioneers will return to action on Wednesday, March 7 against University of Sciences-Philadelphia and Ashland.
 
In the first game against MSU, the Pioneers allowed the Mavericks to score two runs in each of the second, fifth and sixth innings.  Chelsea Riordan drove in the first run of the game with an RBI single.  The second run of the second came around from an infield error.
 
Chelsea Erikson recorded a two-RBI single in the bottom of the fifth to put the Mavericks ahead, 4-0.
 
C.W. Post got one run on the board in the top of the sixth when sophomore shortstop Nicole Hagenah (Commack, N.Y.) singled to score sophomore left fielder Carly Chamberlain (Nesco, N.J.) from third.
 
But that was all the runs the Pioneers could score in the game.  Minn. St-Mankato added two more on a double from catcher Lindsay Erickson.
 
Freshman Megan Salcido (Brawley, Calif.) was charged with the loss after giving up nine hits and three walks for three earned runs over five innings. 
 
Against Saginaw Valley, it was a pitcher's dual as neither team crossed the plate for the first six innings.  The go-ahead run was scored in the top of the seventh when catcher Natalie Wellman hit an RBI single to the shortstop that scored pinch runner Jordan Randall from third.
 
Senior Hayley Bettles (Surrey, British Columbia) pitched five and a third scoreless innings and allowed three hits and three walks while striking out two.  Sophomore Liz Weber (Brightwaters, N.Y.) came on in relief in the fifth inning and allowed one earned run on three hits with one strikeout.
