KISSIMMEE, Fla. (March 8, 2012) – The C.W. Post softball team played to a 1-1 split on Thursday, losing game one to Minnesota State-Mankato, 6-1, before rebounding to defeat Seton Hill, 11-0.
C.W. Post is now 3-5 overall and will wrap up its southern trip in Florida with a pair of games against Northwood and California (Pa.) on Saturday.
Against the Mavericks, the Pioneers led 1-0 in the second courtesy of an RBI single from senior right fielder
Krysta Palazzo (Sea Cliff, N.Y.).
Minnesota St.-Mankato rallied for five runs in the top of the fifth on four hits and two errors, including a two RBI double from right fielder Melanie Upchurch. The Mavericks tacked on one more run in the seventh when centerfielder Chelsea Erickson homered off freshman
Nicole Ehlinger (Hauppauge, N.Y.).
Palazzo led the Pioneers with two hits. Senior pitcher
Hayley Bettles (Surrey, British Columbia) started the game in the circle and pitched four scoreless innings and let up one hit with two strikeouts.
Against Seton Hill, C.W. Post recorded 16 hits and scored 11 runs in the five-inning affair.
In the first inning, the Pioneers plated three runs on three RBI singles from Palazzo, sophomore shortstop
Nicole Hagenah (Commack, N.Y.) and sophomore third baseman
Alexis Gonzalez (Hauppauge, N.Y.).
The Pioneers added three more runs in the third inning, beginning with an RBI single from freshman centerfielder
Samantha Miller (East Meadow, N.Y.) that scored Gonzalez from second. Freshman left fielder
Catherine Havens (Eastport, N.Y.) drove in two more with a single to center field.
The Pioneer bats weren't finished as they rallied for four more runs on five hits in the fourth. Senior second baseman
Kendall Bright (Manlius, N.Y.) led the offense with a two RBI single with Gonzalez and Miller also recording RBI hits.
The final Pioneer run was scored in the fifth when senior
Kim Kessel (Glen Cove, N.Y.) grounded out to third to score sophomore
Carly Chamberlain (Nesco, N.J.).

Liz Weber (Brightwaters, N.Y.) earned her second win of the season after pitching her first complete shutout. She allowed one hit and one walk while striking out three.
