Dowling Ousts Softball From ECC Championships, 6-4

ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. (April 27, 2012) – Dowling College scored six runs on two home runs to defeat C.W. Post, 6-4, and advance to the East Coast Conference Championship final on Saturday.
Dowling improves its overall record to 30-15 while C.W. Post slips to 38-19.
The Golden Lions took a 3-0 lead in the third inning when shortstop Stephanie Tarango homered to centerfield.
The Pioneers got back two runs in the fourth on groundout RBIs from sophomore designated player
Liz Weber (Brightwaters, N.Y.) and junior first baseman
Kaci Hopkins (New Egypt, N.J.).
Dowling broke the game open in the fifth with another three-run shot, this time off the bat of catcher Emily Slack.
C.W. Post scored a run in the sixth on an RBI single from Hopkins that cut the lead in half to 6-3. The Pioneers threatened in the seventh with bases loaded and one out. Freshman catcher
Alyson Dzierzynski (Deer Park, N.Y.) was hit by a pitch for an RBI walk that made the score 6-4. Dowling's Jessie Stavola came in to pitch relief and got Weber to strike out swinging for the second out. Pinch hitter
Nicole Capella (Shirley, N.Y.) reached on a fielder's choice that forced out Hagenah at third for the final out.
Tarango and Slack each batted 2-for-3 with three RBI and a run scored for the Golden Lions.
Dzierzynski and senior left fielder
Kerry Fisher (Barto, Pa.) each led the Pioneers with two hits.
