Second Half Offense Powers No. 8 Field Hockey Past No. 10 East Stroudsburg, 5-4

EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. (Sept. 11, 2012) – The No. 8 LIU Post field hockey team rallied to score three goals in the second half to cap off a comeback and defeat East Stroudsburg University, 5-4, in a PSAC East clash Tuesday afternoon at Whitenight Field.
LIU Post improves to 3-0 overall and 1-0 in division play while East Stroudsburg slips to 2-2 overall and 0-1 in the PSAC East.
The Warriors scored the game's first goal in the fourth minute on a goal from Lauren Ventrella.
The Pioneers answered with a pair of goals, beginning with a goal from freshman defender
Heidi Schaffner (West Long Beach, N.J.) in the ninth minute on a pass from junior forward
Carlee Dragon (Bridgewater, N.J.). Freshman forward
Keliann Margiotta (Sewell, N.J.) followed to put the Pioneers ahead, 2-1, with an unassisted goal in the 27th minute.
ESU was able to capitalize on an LIU Post miscue in the 32nd minute when the Pioneers deflected a ball into their own net on an outside shot that tied the score at 2-2. The Warriors regained the lead minutes later with a goal from Gabrielle Seibert to lead 3-2 going into halftime.
In the second half, East Stroudsburg outshot the LIU Post, 13-7, but the Pioneers made their shots count and poured in three unanswered goals, starting with the tying goal from sophomore forward
Lyn-Marie Wilson (St. Michael's, Barbados) in the 52nd minute, followed less than a minute later with a goal from Margiotta – her second of the game. Dragon later found the back of the cage on a pass from freshman midfielder
Claire Steijn (Vorschooten, Netherlands) in the 64th minute to cushion the lead to 5-3.
East Stroudsburg scored its fourth goal with less than a minute left in the game from Lauren Ventrella but was not able to close the gap.
East Stroudsburg finished the game outshooting LIU Post, 22-11, and held a 10-4 advantage in penalty corners.
Freshman goalkeeper
Becca May (Swedesboro, N.J.) stopped a game-high 13 shots to preserve the win for the Pioneers. ESU goalkeeper Alexis Charles made four saves in goal.
LIU Post returns to action on Friday when it hosts Shippensburg University at 1 p.m. on Hickox Field.
