Dragon And Margiotta's Hat Tricks Lead No. 8 Field Hockey Past Mansfield, 7-1

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Sept. 15, 2012) - The LIU Post Field Hockey team downed Mansfield College,7-1, on the strength of junior Carlee Dragon (Bridgewater, N.J.) and freshman forward Keliann Margiotta (Sewell, N.J.), who each recorded a hat trick in a non-conference contest played Saturday afternoon on Hickox Field.

LIU Post improves to 4-1 overall on the season while Mansfield falls to 3-3.

The Pioneers dominated with shots on goal in the first half, tallying 10 while the Mountaineers only racking up five. LIU Post was able to put home five of its 10 shots with Dragon and Margiotta finding the back of the goal twice each. Freshman Claire Steijn (Voorschoten, Netherlands) added a goal in the closing minutes of the half off an assist from Dragon.

During the second half, both teams were able to put up 10 shots on goal. Margiotta and Dragon both added to their goal totals, scoring one more goal apiece which gave both of the forwards hat tricks on the afternoon. Mansfield's Taryn Schawillie was able to find the back of the net in the 52nd minute to put her Mountaineers on the scoreboard.

LIU Post outshot Mansfield 20-15. Mansfield tallied 14 corners, with LIU Post adding eight. Sophomore Becca May (Swedesboro, N.J.) made a game high eight saves for her fourth win in goal. Junior Sarah Montgomery (West Islip, N.Y.) entered in the final nine minutes making three saves to preserve the win.

The Pioneers return to action on Wednesday, Sept. 19 as they travel to West Chester, Pa. to take on the Golden Rams.
