Men's and Women's Cross Country Both Place Second At LIU Post Invitational

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Sept. 15, 2012) –
Both the men's and women's cross country teams had strong showings as they each finished in second place, respectively, at the LIU Post Invitational on Saturday morning.

The men placed second out of 17 team, behind Fordham University, while the women were second out of 20 teams, with St. John's taking first place. 

Freshman Elizabeth Stirling (Wantagh, N.Y.) made an impressive collegiate debut as she finished the 5K course in ninth place with a time of 19:52.17.  She was joined the in the top 20 by junior Jenn McLaughlin (Seaford, N.Y.), who crossed the finish line in 20:00.65 to finish in 14th place, and freshman Jeanette Solberg (Solberg, N.Y.) who finished in 20:13.01, 20th overall.

Also running well for the Pioneers were senior Caitlin Smith (Levittown, N.Y.), who finished 21st with a time of 20:18.51, junior Angelica Price (Tampa, Fla.), finishing 23rd at 20:23.88, and sophomore Shaylyn Stehl (Wantagh, N.Y.), who's time of 20:26.09 was good for 25th overall.

On the men's side, senior Christian Altamura (Seaford, N.Y.) was the top Pioneer finisher, running the 8K course in 26:29.51, good for third place.  Right behind in him fifth place was junior Thomas Speicher (Levittown, N.Y.), crossing the line at 26:43.73.  Rounding out the Pioneer trio in the top ten was Raymond Coyle (Woodhaven, N.Y.), who finished in ninth place with a time of 27:02.36

Also running well for the Pioneers were freshman Steven Arnone (Staten Island, N.Y.), who's time of 28:02.51 was good for 32nd place overall, and sophomore Joseph Lasher (Seaford, N.Y.), who finished 37th with a time of 28:17.97.
