No. 2 West Chester Shuts Out No. 7 Field Hockey, 6-0

WEST CHESTER, Pa. (Sept. 19, 2012) – Kelsi Lykens registered a hat trick for No. 2 West Chester University as the Golden Rams claimed a 6-0 victory over LIU Post in a PSCA East field hockey clash Wednesday afternoon.
 
West Chester's overall record improves to 5-1 overall and 2-0 in conference play while LIU Post's record dips to 4-2 overall and 1-1 in the PSAC East.
 
Lykens' first goal was scored in the fourth minute on a reverse sweep off a restart just inside the circle.  The Golden Rams added two more goals in the half, including one from Michele Schrift in the 15th minute and another from Lykens at the 35-minute mark to lead 3-0 at the half.
 
In the second half, Carly Buckwalter scored the game's fourth goal with a striking hit off a corner in the 51st minute.   Alexis Versak tapped in a shot on a centered pass from Kayla Gluchowski in the 55th minute.  Lykens scored the Golden Rams' final goal in the 63rd minute when she blasted a shot that bounced off the post and into the cage on a pass from Schrift.
 
West Chester finished the game outshooting LIU Post, 23-4, and held a 16-4 advantage in penalty corners.
 
West Chester goalkeeper Kristin Arnold stopped four shots to preserve the shutout.  Sophomore Becca May (Swedesboro, N.J.) made seven saves for the Pioneers.
 
LIU Post returns to action on Friday, Sept. 21 when it hosts Kutztown University at 1 p.m.
