Men's And Women's Cross Country Compete In 2012 Paul Short Run; Women Grab Fifth Place Team Finish

BETHLEHEM, PA. (Sept. 30, 2012) – Both the men's and women's cross country teams participated in Lehigh's Paul Short Run this weekend.  The women pulled out a fifth place team finish, and the men's Thomas Speicher (Levittown, N.Y.) ran the 8K in a time of 26:38, a personal-best time.

Freshman Elizabeth Stirling (Wantagh, N.Y.) led the women to the fifth place finish with a time of 23:40, an 11th place finish.  Junior Jenn McLaughlin (Seaford, N.Y.) crossed the finish line in 22nd place with a time of 24:07.  Senior Caitlin Smith (Levittown, N.Y.) finished the race in 43rd place with a time of 24:27.  Coming in at 69th and 72nd place were Angelica Price (Tampa, Fla.) and Alexa Montegari (Wanaque, N.J.) with times of 25:34 and 25:39, respectively. 

Rounding out the top seven finishers for the women were Alex Gentile (Old Bethpage, N.Y.) finishing the race in 26:18 for an 100th place finish, and Sara McLaughlin (Seaford, N.Y.) finishing in 117th place with a time of 26:40.

On the men's side, Speicher was the top Pioneer finisher, running the 8K course in 26:38, good for 75th place.  Next to cross the finish line for LIU Post was senior Christian Altamura (Seaford, N.Y.) with a 113th place finish with a time of 27:01.  Senior Ray Coyle (Woodhaven, N.Y) finished third for the Pioneers, crossing the line in 200th place with a time of 28:10.  Joseph Lasher (Seaford, N.Y.) was right behind Coyle finishing 202nd with a time of 28:14.  Freshmen Steven Arnone (Staten Island, N.Y.) and Nick Russo (Farmingdale, N.Y.) followed with times of 29:15 and 31:28, good for 249th and 269th, respectively. 

The Pioneers travel to Orlando, Fla. to compete in the Disney Classic on Oct. 6.
