Men's and Women's Cross Country Finish Second At 2012 Hofstra Brick Stone Run

BETHPAGE, N.Y. (Sept. 8, 2012)—
The men and women cross country teams opened up the 2012 season with a very successful performance Saturday morning at the 2012 Hofstra Brick Stone Run.  Both squads were able to pull out second place victories with the men earning two of the top four spots and the women grabbing three of the top twelve.

The men finished with 53 points, second to only Adelphi University.  Senior Christian Altamura (Seaford, N.Y.) finished third overall with a time of 16:22.38, and fellow teammate Thomas Speicher (Levittown, N.Y.) followed close behind with a time of 16:3 to earn the fourth place finish.  Senior Ray Coyle (Woodhaven, N.Y.) was the third Pioneer to cross the line at 17:14.46 while freshman Steven Arnone (Staten Island, N.Y.) was the fourth at 17:38.35.  Sophomore Joseph Lasher (Seaford, N.Y.) (17:54.42) and Nick Russo (Farmingdale, N.Y.) (19:24.80) rounded out the scoring for the Pioneers.

The women totaled 66 points to finish second behind Adelphi.  Junior Jenn McLaughlin (Seaford, N.Y.) led the women to their second place finish with a personal time of 20:42..96, which was good enough to land her in eighth place.  Junior Angelica Price (Tampa, Fla.) was the second Pioneer and 11th overall finisher with a time of 21:04.29 while Jeanette Solberg (Bergen, Norway) was 12th with a time of 21:05.95.  Senior Caitlin Smith (Farmingdale, N.Y.) (21:51.25), sophomore Alexa Montegari (Wanaque, N.J.) (22:03.19), sophomore Shaylyn Stahl (Wantagh, N.Y.) (22:06.45) and junior Alex Gentile (Old Bethpage, N.Y.) (22:15.55) rounded out the point total for the Pioneers.

The Pioneers return to action Saturday, Sept. 15 on the Brookville Campus as they host their LIU Post Invitational.
