Box Score
WORCESTER, Mass. (Oct. 1, 2013) - Senior forward Carlee Dragon (Bridgewater, N.J.) became the LIU Post field hockey all-time points leader with her goal in the No. 5 Pioneers' 3-0 victory over Assumption Tuesday evening in Worcester, Mass.
As a result, LIU Post improves to 8-0 on the season, including a 3-0 clip in Northeast-10 play. The Greyhounds fall to 4-6 overall and 0-2 in conference action.
Neither team found the back of the net during the first half, as the two squads entered halftime scoreless. Assumption slightly outshot LIU Post in the first half, taking seven shots to the Pioneers' six. Both sides tallied four penalty corners in the half, and the visitors' Ericka Parks (Nesconset, N.Y.) made five saves in the first, while Heather Philbrick recorded three stops for the home squad.
The second half was a different story, as Dragon found the back of the cage after just over three minutes had elapsed in the half.Sophomore Keliann Margiotta (Sewell, N.J.) took a penalty corner which Dragon handled, and fired into the lower left corner of the goal. Sophomore Cindy Russell (Sound Beach, N.Y.) doubled the score with her second penalty stroke of the season in the 67th minute. Margiotta added one for good measure with one tick left on the clock, as she re-directed a shot from junior Lyn-Marie Wilson (Bridgetown, Barbados) during a scramble in front of the goal as time expired.
Parks picked up her second shutout in goal as she made nine saves, while Philbrick made six stops and allowed three goals.
The Pioneers had 11 shots in the second half to end with 17, and also took nine penalty corners. The Greyhounds recorded 12 shots and eight penalty corners in the game.
Next up for the Pioneers is a home match-up against Merrimack on Sunday (Oct. 6) with play slated to begin at 11 a.m.
