Box Score BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (Oct. 12, 2013) - Senior forward Alexa Niciforo (East Islip, N.Y.) netted the LIU Post women's soccer team's lone goal Saturday, but it was not enough, in a 2-1 loss to No. 15 Bridgeport in Bridgeport, Conn. The defeat puts an end to the Pioneers' six-game winning streak.

It didn't take UB (11-1, 5-0 ECC) long to get on the board, as the hosts struck for the first goal just 7:09 into the opening half. After sophomore midfielder Flo Gamby (Goffs Oak, England) hit the crossbar six seconds earlier, freshman forward Amanda Moura (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) followed up for the score.

Niciforo would respond for LIU Post (8-3, 3-2 ECC) in the 28th minute. She forced a turnover in the offensive zone, and beat Purple Knights' senior goalkeeper Julia Hansson (Tocksfors, Sweden) for the equalizer.

But, with 10:07 to go, freshman midfielder Tabea Rauschenberger (Muhlacker, Germany) put Bridgeport in front for good on a free kick. The tally was her second of the year.

In the second half, the Pioneers outshot the Purple Knights by a 6-5 count. Yet, the visitors were unable to find the back of the mesh, and were saddled with their third loss of 2013.

Between the pipes, sophomore netminder Katelyn Phillips (Littleton, Colo.) had a game-high seven saves for LIU Post, which owned a 14-12 edge in shots, and a 7-1 clip in corner kicks. Hansson tallied four stops for UB.

Head Coach Mark Dawson and the Pioneers are back in action Thursday (Oct. 17), when they face Holy Family at Robert Blitz Field in Brookville, N.Y. The opening kick is set for 3:30 p.m.
