Women's Tennis Falls in ECC Semifinals to NYIT, 5-0
FLUSHING, N.Y. (Oct. 25, 2013) - On Friday, the fourth-seeded LIU Post women's tennis team fell in its East Coast Conference semifinal match against top-seeded New York Institute of Technology by a final of 5-0 at the Queens Tennis Courts in Flushing, N.Y.
The Pioneers finish out their season with a 4-7 record, while the Bears improves to 13-0, and advance to the ECC title match.
NYIT took a 2-0 lead on two Pioneer defaults in the No. 6 singles and No. 3 doubles flights. The Bears' third win came in No. 2 doubles action, as freshman Laura Harwell (Alabaster, Ala.) and sophomore Amanda Gaimaro (Lynbrook, N.Y.) fell to the Sanchez Gonzalez/Burinato duo, 8-0. Sophomore Lucie Chrastecka (Karlovy Vary, Czech Republic) and freshman Heena Kewalramani (Bangkok, Thailand) captured two games, before falling 8-2 to Raspaut/Siembab in No. 1 doubles action.
The only scored singles match on the day took place in the second position. Kewalramani dropped the match 6-1, 6-0 to Sanchez Gonzalez for the Bears' fifth and final win of the day. All additional singles play went unfinished.
