Women's Basketball Tops ECC Preseason Poll
CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. (Oct. 31, 2013) - The East Coast Conference's women's basketball coaches have selected LIU Post as the front-runner to cut down the nets as league champions in the 2013-14 season.
Six squads claimed first-place votes in the preseason poll, but none received more than LIU Post's three. The Pioneers, who topped the poll with 109 points, are coming off a 19-10 record and a third-straight NCAA Tournament appearance last season. Ten players, including their second- and third-leading scorers from a year ago, Alexis Peters (Dorchester, Mass.) (11.4 ppg) and Chelsea Williams (Copiague, N.Y.) (9.4 ppg), are back in the fold.
Neighboring NYIT came in at second, while Dowling, Queens and Roberts Wesleyan rounded out the Top-5.
St. Thomas Aquinas, District of Columbia and Bridgeport followed in sixth, seventh and eighth, respectively, while Molloy, Daemen and Mercy capped the poll.
Head Coach Deirdre Moore and the Pioneers start the year on the road at Southern New Hampshire on Friday, Nov. 8. The opening tip is scheduled for 5 p.m.
