BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Oct. 6, 2013) - An early goal seven minutes into the opening half by senior forward Alexa Niciforo (East Islip, N.Y.) proved to be all the LIU Post women's soccer team needed Sunday in a 3-0 victory over Daemen at Robert Blitz Field in Brookville, N.Y.

With the win, the Pioneers improved to 7-2 overall, and 3-1 in East Coast Conference play. The Wildcats fell to 5-6 overall, and 1-5 in the ECC.

Craving more, Niciforo found the back of the net again in the 52nd minute on a ball from freshman forward/midfielder Julia Backman (Morsil, Sweeden) to give the Pioneers a 2-0 lead.

Later in the second stanza, the green and gold would tack on one more for good measure, as Backman deposited the ball into the back of the mesh off a rebound for a 3-0 advantage.

The Pioneers dominated the shot total by a 36-2 clip. Wildcats' goalkeeper Kathryn Haessner (Moravia, N.Y.) had 13 stops, while freshman goaltenders Hreffie Agnarsdottir (Reykjavik, Iceland) and Felicia Orderud (Gothenburg, Sweden) had one save apiece, and combined for the shutout for the green and gold.

Head Coach Mark Dawson and the Pioneers are back in action Wednesday (Oct. 9), as they head to Lakewood, N.J. to take on Georgian Court. Kickoff is slated for 3:30 p.m.
