Cross Country Sits Third, Sixth in Current USTFCCCA East Poll
NEW ORLEANS, La. (Oct. 9, 2013) - The LIU Post men's and women's cross country teams placed sixth, and third, respectively, in Tuesday's United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Division II East Region Poll.
The women climbed three spots to third on the list, after their first-place performance in the NJIT Challenge. Senior Jenn McLaughlin (Seaford, N.Y.) propelled the Pioneers with her third-place finish in the Division II/III 5,000-meter race. She posted a new school-record time of 18:47.11.
The top two spots on the women's ledger remained unchanged, with Northeast-10 schools Stonehill and Merrimack taking first, and second, respectively. Adelphi had the biggest drop-off, falling from third to 10th.
Meanwhile, the men's squad rose from seventh to sixth in the poll in light of their first-place effort at the NJIT Challenge. Leading the Pioneers was senior Joseph Lasher (Seaford, N.Y.). He ran to a personal-best time of 25:37.55 in the 8,000-meter event.
The men's census saw Stonehill take the top spot after it bumped American International, which fell to No. 3.
Up next for Head Coach Rob Morris and his Pioneers is the Delaware Blue & Gold Invitational on Saturday, October 12 in Newark, Del. The women's meet is slated for a 10:30 a.m. start, with the men running at 11:15 a.m.
